Location:
Girona, Spain
Overview:
Els Angeles is one of the favorite Girona rides. This route takes you up over the easier side (longer), drops you down into Madrimagny, where you then head to Monells before heading back west towards Cassa de la Selva. The climb up to Santa Pellaia is similar to Els Angeles (long and shallow one direction, short and steep the other). Between Madrimagny and Cassa de la Selva is stunningly pretty. Drop down into Cassa de la Selva and cruise back to Girona through Quart.
Difficulty: Moderate to Difficult
Distance: 36 miles.
Total Elevation Gain: 3,849 ft.
Description:
Head south out of Girona’s medieval quarter on the Carrer Emili Grahit. Follow the signs through the roundabouts for Els Angeles, and when you pass under the N-II highway the route starts. Stay on this road (GI-6703) up and over the climb to Els Angeles (there’s quite a view from the top), then drop down the short descent. At the crossroads near Madrimanya, turn right / south onto 6701 and take this into Monells. Turn right onto a reasonably sized road to the right (#664, marked for Cruilles and Sant Sadurni de l’Huera). This will go over some rollers and fields before hitting the climb up to Santa Pellaia. Once up and over the climb descend down into Casa de la Selva. You come straight off the descent into an industrial zone. At the first T-intersection turn right. This road (C-65) will take you out of Casa de la Selva, through Quart and back to one of the roundabouts you passed through on the way to Els Angeles. Follow signs back to Girona and you are done!
