Magnus Right, so the Classics are starting for real tomorrow.

I am still feeling pretty good after the time trial on Thursday, but I still have some apprehensions regarding Flanders. This is a race that when I’m at my very best, I could possibly get up there for. But if anything goes other than perfect, it’s a bit on the hard side for me. So I will be looking for some BIG K’s and a good workout more than anything else, just to set myself up for next Sunday.

Today Meatball and I went for a bit of a spin. You know, just to get the legs turning and to get out of our hotel room. In Belgium, there is a law that you must ride on the bike path if there is one. So obviously, we obeyed the law and pedalled away on this narrow, rather bumpy little path.

We went through this little town where a few cars were parked beside the path. A lady decided to test our bike handling skills and, at the same time, see if we were awake. She threw her car door open full-tilt in front of us. Both Meatball and I threw our bikes out towards the road as quickly as we could.

The timing was such that I missed the door by 0.00000001 mm with my handlebars but clipped it with my hip. I didn’t think it hit so hard, but now I can say that it did leave a bit of a mark. Meatball, however, said it sounded like I took the door off the car. Never mind. We are both OK and as they say, close never. . .

Hopefully tomorrow is going to be better than what the weather people are guestimating. They promise 5-8 degrees C and a whole lot of rain. Most of you probably know that I don’t mind the wet and cold when I do Roubaix. But Flanders is different because the roads are so much narrower and you have steep drops with loads of corners and other dangerous things. Luckily, it’s the same weather for all 200 guys on the startline.

Bring on the Classics!
