The third leg of the Magnolia/Sugarloaf/Super Flag hill climb trifecta, this ride is another excellent choice for those with limited time who still want to get a decent workout in.
Difficulty: Moderate to Difficult
Distance: 10 miles.
Total Elevation Gain: 2,028 ft.
Description:
Starting on Baseline Road across from the entrance to Chautauqua Park, head west and ascend over 2,000 feet in 5 miles to the summit of Flagstaff Mountain, turning around by the mailboxes at the entrance to Bison Road. Fly back down the way you came, being careful to avoid sandy spots and abundant deer as you make your way back to your starting point.
Variations:
For a shorter alternative, take a right at Flagstaff Amphitheater Drive and continue for roughly a mile to the amphitheater. Tag the mountain’s namesake at the top of the rock amphitheater (the Flagstaff) and return the way you came.

This is my favorite ride as a fitness test. I can remember many dozens of rides; how I felt, how well I rode, and I never get tired of coming back.
