Half of the team have raced Milan-San Remo six or seven times. But for the rest of us, this was our very first time! Each of us was given a job. Mine was riding in support for Julian Dean and others, like Will and Maggy, were given free range to follow attacks. If they didn’t make the break, then they were also supposed to ride in support of our leaders, Millar and Dean.
Will made the right move, and after a bit of time, the break of the day was established. This was great for all of us because: 1. We were represented in the break, 2. The pressure was off the rest of us, and 3. TV time!
Will had a great day in the saddle, albeit being a very long one. We caught up with him about 10 km out and all he could ask for was some food after doing 6600 kilojoules worth of work!
I’m damn proud of my roomie!
People can sit at home watching these races on TV and say, “Oh come on! Don’t get dropped! Get back on! It’s easy!” But I am here to tell you, it’s way way harder than it looks.
Off to track worlds now!

great ride boys; as always, you kept it entertaining!
Congratulations to Will on the long break and Julian for the finish. What happened to the rest of the team in the finishing list?
Yo Meatball….When you get to Manchester say hi to my boy Milton Vazquez from the Uruguay team … easy to pick him out of the crowd…he’s the little dude in the RideClean shirt.
Hola Big Al - Many of the riders used MSR as classics training and Tyler in particular needed to save it up for Castilla y Leon, which starts tomorrow.
Great start to the season Mike, Keep the PAers proud. We are all supporting your efforts at PSU and in the Keystone State!!!!
Go Mike! This is the girl you met in Southern California at the Urgent Care a few years back. Remember, I commented on how great you guys did at the ToC! Anyways, still a big fan and I’m always rooting for you and the team! Good luck at the Worlds!
no, I really believe it’s harder than it looks . . . it’s a tough sport. maybe the toughest endurance sport. the focus on winning (ie. first place) is misplaced. riding well with style is more important.
