Going to the big show!

TdF logoWell, we got the invitation to the ball. I think everyone in this organization has worked beyond hard to make this happen. So this is a bit of a reward for that. The funny (ironic) thing is, now that we’ve gotten the invite, the real work begins.

Jonathan Vaughters, stage 2Getting the invitation to the big ball means you’ve arrived. Choosing the right dress means you’ve suceeded. The next 10,000 kms of training and racing is our dress shopping. It will result in us either waiting in the corner for a dance or stealing the show as the belle of the ball.

Off we go!

Good news and you guys deserve to ride in the TdF. Unfortunately, I will not be watching this year. Unless Astana is invited. It’s sad that the ASO continues to keep Astana out of the Tour. I hope it’s not too late for them to ride along side with Slipstream Chipotle. Nonetheless, give them hell boys! Congrats!

  • http://guinilingonline.com Brian

Sweet! I can see the headlines now: “Argyle invades France; Mustaches become trendy again”

  • J

Congrats on the invite to the show, you and the team have been fighting hard to make it.

Make some team gear available to purchase so we can wear the colors proudly.

  • Doug

Congratulations to you and the team. All that hard work has paid off. The USA now has a team we can support. Fortunately, I will be watching this year because we don’t care that Astana was not invited.
Now when and where can we start to buy our Argyle Armada gear. Its time to get the swag in the stores and/or online. Great job all

  • frankobones

I jumped outta my chair when I saw that the team was in. I can’t wait ’til the whole world is mustachioed and sporting argyle. With the talent and clean riding this team represents there is no looking back. YATTA!!!

  • jlee

it’s been funny following this team from it’s infancy to now the big race.

i hope to continue to root for this team, and i too would like to sport some argyle swag, before the rest of the world discovers who you guys are.

i hope to see an exciting and aggressive performance from slipstream this summer!

  • Lozy

Congrats guys I knew you all could do it!!! Good luck with the rest of the preparation!! I know a lot of people are really pumped for you all!!

  • James

congrates to all look forward to watching you guys go for it

  • Sam

Happy as a happy thing riding on a happy thing.

Well done guys – May the force be with you!

  • J. Schafer

Congrats… just the news I have been waiting for. Got a little nervous after P-N, but never lost faith in the Argyle!

  • Joe Christian

Great news! I am very happy for the team. Watching Slipstream at the tour will be a going away present of sorts for me. As I am due to deploy to Iraq this Summer. Go Navy, and Go Slipstream!

  • Rocket Man

Congrats! Argyle goes well with yellow (although it might clash with polka dots).

Is Dave Z auditioning for a spot in a low budget adult movie? That mustache is horrendous!

  • kennett peterson

    FUCK YEAH!!!

  • http://www.nickdavisproductions.com Nick

    Fantastique!

  • Cam

    Absolutely phenomenal – Congratulations

  • Stephen Austra-Beck

  • Casey

Congrats!!! I’ll be following as closely as possbile from the paradise known as Iraq….watching cycling in 130 degree temperatures, awesome!

  • Andy B

Well done JV and all the crew, just knew you’d do it – although have to admit P Nice made me sweat a bit.

Way to go – digging out my argyle socks even as I type!!

  • Steve

Great job to all the riders and staff!! keep up the hard work!! Comprendre-moi!

  • Chris

Your team is such a bright spot in a sport that does its best to destroy itself. Now that you have led the way in anti-doping, the organization and the UCI bicker endlessly. What next? I applaud every member of your team for their continued clean success. You guys are becoming saviors of the sport. Thanks for doing more than your part to save professional bike racing. Lets hope the powers that be follow suit. Can’t wait to see you in the tour! Dress shopping?? That has to be the worst analogy ever. What you are really shopping for is a title sponsor. Good luck!! Will Tom D. race his first TDF?

  • RT

    Nice work boys!

  • Paul Sanford

Such great news. Makes us at Roomful Express so proud to be sponsor!! Well Done!!

  • Macklin

    This is fantastic
I always assumed you guys would make it but its still really nice to hear.
Im expectin to see argyle in Paris fashion now

  • Andrew

    Allez allez allez!

  • Russell

Pure class guys, congrats! Where do I buy my official Slipstream TDF addition t-shirt or jersey?! Here’s to your health and success in France!

  • cyclechick

Great job, guys! I can’t wait to cheer you on this summer. Train hard and ride safe!

  • Kenneth Harry

ooohhh rraaaah Mr Bill, giddyup-n-go ….giddyup-n-go. Will be watching and pulling for you guys.

  • inga

Congrats guys! … Now I have to get cable just for the month of July again. Thanks a lot.

Don’t listen to them DZ… Your mustache is not horrendous but the sign of a man who has achieved the pinnacle of serene self containment in a ridiculous world. I applaud you.

Good luck to all the Slipstream riders and team in the Tour, hope a magic wind rides with you.

P.s. You guys should issue some simple argyle arm and leg warmers for those of us who won’t ride in a team kit but like the argyle style

  • Bill

Very nice gents. I’m a big fan of team argyle, and would love to see a stage win, epic break, top 20 GC, whatever. I have no patience for the “I won’t be watching the Tour” crowd (TFB). Frankly we’ve been getting screwed by the folks with Festina mindset for at least a decade (does anyone remember what it was like to train thinking it was the main factor that drove our heroes’ success?). If you don’t want to watch the tour, that’s your biz. If there isn’t a tour to watch because the sponsors give up…that’s a whole ‘nother deal.

  • http://cleanteam,cleanteam sean wilby

great news , a clean team in a clean tour ? pass good wishes on to riders for the tour

  • http://milan sunday67

good luck in milan , bring on mags in roubaix

  • http://cleanteam sunday67

clean team in a clean tour , bye bye astana

  • BG Clement

I’m glad you guys are in. Unfortunately, I won’t be watching due to the Astana snub, but I wish you the best. Stay on the clean riding plan and we can use you all as a metric–especially in the TTs as we know DaveZ and DaveM are top talents.

  • Mike Brauner

Congratulations to everyone at Slipstream on the TDF selection and good luck this spring.

  • Robb

    Congrats to the Slipstream Team!!!!!!
    Allez argyle allez!!

  • http://durangosp360.blogspot.com James

I’ll be watching the Argyle Armada on the roads in France this July. Your invitation is the only reason I’m watching it this year. I hope you guys show that you can race clean & hard, but still get results.

  • http://www.joelprice.com/blog Joel Price

Don’t get me wrong. I’m very happy Slipstream/Chipotle received a invite. The team has been first class, it shows and I believe it’s reaping the rewards for it’s hard work. I’m growing a strong bond of loyalty to the team. However, all teams, including Slipstream, should feel uneasy how ASO is handling Astana. The fact remains that eight of the twenty selected teams for the TdF have riders or management with a some sort of doping history. I don’t think the ASO decision to snub Astana has much to do with a “clean race.” The credibility of the race is in question. All invited teams should have some sort of uneasiness. Who knows, you could be unjustly snubbed one day and you will appreciate help from fellow teams.

I will refrain from turning the good news into a flame war. I said what I feel needs to be said.

    Give them hell, Slipstream!

  • Dan

Glad to see you have achieved your goal of getting into the Tour. I am also happy to read that you are going for it in the Giro and not just using it as training as it is my favorite race of the season.

  • DMV

    Proceed with determination,will and courage.

  • http://www.radsport-glinde.de Michael

Congratulations Argyle boys! Now it´s payback time for all the efforts you made!
I would love to see Jens Voigt and Steven Cozza on a long and hopefully successful escape ;-)

  • Mark Smith

Maybe the dress will be a “maillot juane”.

  • MisterMo

At last we have a CLEAN US team we can root for and be proud of! Go get ‘em boys! I’m excited to have someone to root for again!!!

  • http://www.europeloton.com Briggs Heaney

    JV (et. all),

I know it’s still a long way from the start line in Brest this July, but Petaluma California’s own Steven Cozza sure looks like he deserves a chance to be a super-domestique this year in the Tour de France!Congratulations on obtaining the first goal! Like you said yourself, now the real work begins. Take your BEST riders to the Tour, not those riders with the best palmares from the past. The future is now, and the younger the better in this ‘new age’ of cycling. Long live the ‘Argyle Gang’: Cozza, Friedman, Huff, Farrar, Lowe, Peterson—taking American cycling into the next decade!

ps–don’t forget about Hansen and Lewis from High Road—they’re pretty good too!
