Since signing on to the Argyle Armada, David Millar and Christian Vande Velde have been following the hardcore training regime of a talented Dutch coach. Adrie van Diemen, the trainer who worked with Greg LeMond back in the day, also coaches several of the team’s European based cyclists.
Adrie has been following the team closely from his home in Sweelinckplein staying up until as late as 2:30 am to watch the coverage. And he likes what he is seeing.
“David is getting stronger and will look for new opportunities in today’s last race,” said Adrie. “David and Christian will do everything they can today to get the last golden jersey in their hands.”
Adrie came to Girona, Spain to spend a week in January working with the team and putting them through difficult drills that included sprint competitions, team time trials, and “other crazy Adrie things,” said Millar.
“They told me that the hard, structured training is now paying off. Plus having fun on the bike makes it possible to train hard and good,” said Adrie. “I’m proud to be their trainer.”

And don’t forget he did also Danny Nelissen which became World Champion Amateur in Colombia at high altitude.
Adrie, Simply is the best trainer in cycling… with a good inventive and solid view on training. And he understands that “work” also should be fun.
Adrie has a revolutionary but solid view on (individual) training programs. I have to congratulate mr Vaughters with this acquisition.
I wish the team lots of luck!
P.S.
I know a talented Dutch guy at a Dutch pro team (currently training under Italian supervision and Italian doctors on advice of mr J. Hanegraaf) that after 2008 certainly will remember that he was successfully under the supervision of Adrie as a junior in Rabobank team. He will see what is possible when he is watching the back of David M. and some others.
