Jonathan Vaughters Reports:
“Key members of our Tour of California squad started the 2008 season at the Tour of the Bahamas, Feb 2-3. Though we took all three stages and first and second in the overall, the victories were hard won with intense competition from Cuba and Florida.”
“David Zabriskie won the opening 5K prologue on Saturday. That afternoon, Tyler Farrar won the 90K circuit race in a field sprint. Then on Sunday, Farrar won the hot 180K road race solo - a first for the 23-year old.”
“Sunday’s win was anything but easy as Frank Trevisio and his Toshiba gang kept chasing down Slipstream’s attempts to break the field. Finally the fitness gained by the last three weeks of hard training in New Mexico paid off. The band snapped and Farrar soloed the last 20K of the race. Meanwhile, Christian Vandevelde kept an eye on the chase group and moved up to second overall in the process.”
“A big thanks to Mark Holowesko, Susan Larson and Scott Hirschorn of H3O for their hospitality and making this trip possible.”
