Slipstream Sports Honors Outstanding Youth Cycling Programs, Giving Away $20,000 to Foster Future Cyclists

Boulder, CO – November 14, 2007 – Cycling is on the rise in the United States, but most talented young riders lack the support they need to get to the next level of the sport. Slipstream Sports, founded to develop the next generation of American cycling champions, today announced the winners of the “Causing the Slipstream” program. The program, created to provide financial support to outstanding youth cycling programs across the country, will provide access to top coaches, professional level equipment, and other tools they need to succeed.

Slipstream Sports named Fulton Flyers Cycling Club of Atlanta, GA and Major Motion Development of Los Angeles, CA, recipients of the Yellow Jersey, the top development fund. Fulton Flyers Cycling Club’s primary mission is to teach their riders to work hard, have fun, and to win and lose with respect for themselves and their competitors. They also strive to expand the number of junior development teams in the Atlanta area to ten teams by 2010. Major Motion Development’s main endeavor is to provide the life-enriched values of cycling by developing young cyclists through education, mentoring, and encouragement so each junior can reach his or her full potential. Each organization will receive a $5,000 development fund, a spot at a team training camp for the top rated rider, Felt bikes for the most outstanding junior, discounts from industry sponsors including Felt, Giro and Pearl Izumi, access to private online coaching from renowned sports physiologist, Allen Lim, PHD, and access to a private online forum with select Team Slipstream/Chipotle riders.

The four recipients of the Argyle Jersey, each receiving $2,500 development fund, are:

  • Mesa Cycles Racing Team, St Louis, MO; raising young riders’ self-esteem and self-respect by attainting their goals through cycling.
  • Rad Racing Northwest, Olympia, WA; teaching young cyclists life lessons through the sport of cycling.
  • Motivated Over Bicycling (M.O.B.), Fishers, IN; teaching junior riders not only how to ride, but how to be leaders.
  • Team Swift Junior Development, San Francisco, CA; an eight year-old junior development program supporting over 60 riders aged ten to 18 years old.

Argyle Jersey recipients will also each receive a Felt bike for the most outstanding junior and access to a private online forum with select Team Slipstream/Chipotle riders.

Nineteen other youth cycling programs will receive the Polka-Dot KOM development fund and are listed on www.slipstreamsports.com.

All “Causing the Slipstream” recipients were selected based on their past history of athlete development, need for financial support, and proposed implementation of sponsorship funds. Each recipient aligns with Slipstream Sports’ corporate mission: supporting the ethical growth of cycling in the United States.

“Slipstream Sports has an opportunity and an obligation to help the next generation of American cycling champions achieve their dreams” said CEO/President, Jonathan Vaughters. “We’re thrilled to be able to help these outstanding organizations and we look forward to helping them grow and prosper.”
