May 05, 2007 - Silver City, NM - In today’s downtown Silver City Criterium, Team Slipstream/Chipotle took more or less a recovery day, trying to recover some from their huge efforts in Stage 3, and trying to save up some energy for Sunday’s grueling Gila Monster stage.
Without a true sprinter on the squad at Tour of the Gila, the team strategy for the day was to have someone join a breakaway, and hope that it might work well together on the technical course.
Timmy Duggan was an early aggressor in the race, riding off the front on the sharp hill on the backside of the course. He was joined by 4 other strong riders and they quickly built a 30 second lead.
Their lead fluctuated between 20-40 seconds most of the race, but soon the Jelly Belly train went to work chasing hard and with just a few laps remaining, the break was caught.
In the field sprint, Lucas, Alex and Mike Lange rolled across the line in 13th, 14th and 15th place.
