Donald 12th on stage; Peterson into 2nd in Best Young Rider

April 17, 2007 - Rome, GA - In Stage 2 of the Tour de Georgia, Team Slipstream/Chipotle continued it’s patient approach to the week-long race, letting other teams search for glory in the long early breakaway, and protecting it’s General Classification hopes on a challenging final circuit destined for a sprint finish.

Once the peloton arrived in Rome, after enjoying sunny conditions on the long, rolling 200 km route, there were still 3 laps (15 km total) left to race through downtown Rome. The circuit in Rome features a steep climb up Clocktower Hill, and that is where the race winner made his winning move, and a small group separated slightly from the main pack.

Team Slipstream/Chipotle’s Jason Donald was in a good position going up Clocktower Hill on the final lap, and made his way into this selection - finishing in 12th place on the stage. Danny Pate and Tom Peterson were the next Slipstream/Chipotle riders across in the next big group of finishers, just 5 seconds behind.

Heading into Wednesday’s Stage 3 Donald sits in 16th overall, while Pate is in 20th overall. Tom Peterson has moved up into 2nd place in the Best Young Rider competition.
